The Spanish tragicomedy The Bitter Christmas tells two intertwined stories set during the holiday season. The first follows Elsa, an advertising executive going through a personal crisis after her mother’s death in 2004. The second follows director Raúl, who in 2026 is writing a screenplay about Elsa in an attempt to overcome his creative block. This lavish metafilm comes from acclaimed director Pedro Almodóvar. The leading roles are masterfully played by Bárbara Lennie and Leonardo Sbaraglia, with Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Victoria Luengo, and Milena Smit completing the ensemble cast. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Soundtrack. By blurring the boundaries between fiction and reality, the film offers a fascinating exploration of the transformation of one’s own life into art. 🎟️ Tickets can be purchased at the Art-kino box office (open every day one hour before the first screening) or via the CoreEvent platform.
