Late September 1944. The final days of the Warsaw Uprising, launched by the Armia Krajowa, the armed wing of Poland’s civic-nationalist resistance movement, against the retreating German occupiers, are drawing to a close, while the first units of the Red Army approach the city. Lieutenant Zadra (Wieńczysław Gliński) commands a unit of 43 fighters and civilians, cut off from other Polish units and increasingly surrounded by German forces that have launched a counteroffensive. Zadra soon receives orders to lead his men into the labyrinth of dark and claustrophobic sewers beneath Warsaw, in an attempt to break out of the encirclement… The film won the Special Jury Prize at the 1957 Cannes Film Festival. Tickets can be purchased at the Art-kino box office (open every day from one hour before the start of the first screening) or via the CoreEvent platform.
