The warm Moroccan-Spanish drama Love in Tangier tells a moving story about holding on to one’s home later in life. The film follows seventy-nine-year-old María Ángeles, an independent Spanish woman who has lived a quiet and solitary life in Tangier for decades. Her peaceful routine is disrupted when her daughter Clara arrives from Madrid with plans to sell her mother’s apartment. Determined not to give up her memories and home, resourceful María begins a fight to stay — and unexpectedly finds a new love along the way. This charming and deeply personal film is directed by acclaimed Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani. The fearless elderly protagonist is brilliantly portrayed by acting icon Carmen Maura. Her daughter is played by Marta Etura, with Ahmed Boulane completing the cast. Following its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award, the film also triumphed in Mar del Plata, receiving the prestigious Astor Piazzolla Award.
