“White Is Washed at Ninety” Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia; Montenegro, North Macedonia, Italy, 2025, 144 min Bronja’s upbringing in 1980s Ljubljana was filled with warmth, laughter, and carefree family moments. This colorful world changes abruptly when she loses her mother too early, and as a teenager she herself faces a serious illness – Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Based on Bronja Žakelj’s autobiographical bestseller of the same name, this moving family drama follows her coming of age through loss, but also through incredible strength, optimism, and the unbreakable family bonds that help her overcome life’s greatest challenges. Filmed as an international co-production (with participation of the Croatian production company Kinorama), the film White Is Washed at Ninety is directed by acclaimed Slovenian director Marko Naberšnik. The lead roles are played by Lea Cok (as Bronja) and legendary Anica Dobra (as Dada), alongside actors such as Jurij Zrnec, Tjaša Železnik, Vladimir Tintor, and Iva Krajnc Bagola. Depicting a coming-of-age journey in which sorrow and illness are intertwined, the film delivers a powerful celebration of life and human resilience.
