The plot follows 12-year-old Mia, a rebellious girl who has always felt like an outsider – both in her seemingly perfect but terribly ordinary town and within her own family. Mia loves unusual clothes, she is constantly late, and most importantly - she firmly believes that monsters exist! After a series of incidents at school, the principal sends her to a mysterious academy as punishment. To her enormous surprise (and initial fear), all her new classmates are just – real monsters! But instead of punishment, the new school for Mia becomes a place where she finally begins to feel like she belongs. With the help of her faithful and shaggy pet rat, Mia must survive school life, but also join forces with new friends to thwart the sinister Van Vlad's plan to destroy the human world. Through this tense adventure, the film teaches us that true belonging is not found in copying others, but in the courage to embrace and celebrate our own diversity – and that, with eerily good friends, no school is too scary!
