In 1869, Ivan Standl took the first photograph of the Baška Tablet, one of the most important monuments of Croatian literacy, without a digital camera and the ease of repeating dozens of shots. Mirna Lipovac from the Zagreb-based Society of Friends of the Glagolitic Alphabet talks about how this pioneer of Croatian photography took the shot, what obstacles he overcame, and why his photograph is still considered one of the best shots of the tablet today. The story of this undertaking also opens up the topic of the beginnings of photographic documentation of heritage.
