What the workshop covers • The story of Cinderella has versions associated with Greece, Egypt, China, Italy, France and Germany. The workshop traces this path to the version popularized by Charles Perrault, Rossini's opera and later Disney's film adaptation. • Rossini's libretto has fewer supernatural elements and more humor than Perrault's fairy tale. Anamarija Knego summarizes its message with the words: "The greatest magic is a good soul." • Anamarija Knego reveals how an opera soloist prepares for a role, shares details from the artistic process and answers questions from visitors. Ahead of the premiere • Gioachino Rossini's comic opera "Cinderella" is being staged for the first time in the history of the ensemble of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc Opera. • The Rijeka production takes on the famous staging by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, originally staged at the Munich Bayerische Staatsoper. The performances are conducted by conductors Jiann Cheng and Nika Kožar.
