Film once again takes on the role of a messenger of inclusion and change. This year, the Croatian Cultural Centre is once again hosting the 24th International Film Festival “Uhvati film”, a unique regional event that uses the lens of short films to challenge prejudices about disability. Organized by the Spirit Association, the festival does not offer stories that seek sympathy, but powerful works in which disability is simply an obstacle that can be overcome, while the focus is on unlimited human potential, creativity, and authenticity. For young people with disabilities, the choice of education and career is often narrowed before they even have the opportunity to discover what they can and want to do. Schools, families, and the system can open many doors, but they can also close them too early. Through two short films, we will discuss education, career choices, and art as a space for learning, working, and creating, rather than simply as a form of therapy. If you work in a school or are involved in the upbringing and development of young people with disabilities, this is a conversation where your experience can make a difference.
