Exhibition: The Governor’s Palace – The Heart of Rijeka’s History Organiser: Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka Exhibition author: Antonella Vlaše Opening: 8 October at 12:00, State Archives in Rijeka On Thursday, 8 October at 12:00, the exhibition “The Governor’s Palace – The Heart of Rijeka’s History”, created by Antonella Vlaše and organised by the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka and the State Archives in Rijeka, will open at the State Archives in Rijeka as part of the “Hill of Culture” (Brdo kulture) project. The exhibition marks the 130th anniversary of the construction of the Palace, one of Rijeka’s most recognisable landmarks. For more than a century, the Governor’s Palace has witnessed the history and transformation of the city. Built in the late 19th century according to the design of Hungarian architect Alajos Hauszmann, the Palace has over the years served as a seat of political power and a setting for turbulent historical events. Today, it is home to the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral Rijeka. The exhibition presents the known and lesser-known history of the Palace, which has undergone numerous historical changes, as well as photographs documenting its ongoing energy renovation, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its history. 📅 Exhibition duration: 8 October – 11 November 2026
