Director Anica Tomić and dramaturg Jelena Kovačić, in collaboration with young dramaturg and writer Jan Samek, continue their long-standing theatrical exploration of violence and its various forms. Their artistic approach has consistently developed through performances that examine gender-based violence, family fractures, unspoken wounds and transgenerational patterns of aggression, as seen in projects such as Safe House, Hotel Zagorje and numerous other works in which violence is portrayed not as an exception, but as a symptom of deeper social structures. A particularly significant work in this ongoing exploration is Ovo bi mogla biti moja ulica (This Could Be My Street, 2010), inspired by the tragic death of Luka Ritz. It was one of the first Croatian theatrical works to openly address peer violence as a social issue, exposing dispersed responsibility, institutional silence and the cracks within the community that often go unnoticed. The new production, currently titled Ovo bih mogao bit ja (This Could Be Me), builds on this methodological and thematic foundation while expanding it to reflect today’s social circumstances, in which violence among young people is taking increasingly complex forms.
