Galerija Kortil: The Roots of Small Fires by Milica Živković Galerija Kortil will open its autumn season on October 2 at 7 PM with the exhibition “The Roots of Small Fires” by artist Milica Živković. The exhibition comes to Rijeka following its acclaimed presentation at Vienna’s MuseumsQuartier. In Vienna, the exhibition was developed through an artist residency as part of the UNIQA SEE FUTURE Foundation programme, with mentorship from artist Šejla Kamerić. The programme, organised by the Croatian Office for Contemporary Art NOMAD, was created to support and promote young female visual artists from Southeast Europe, providing them with a unique platform for artistic development and international visibility. Milica Živković’s artistic practice develops at the intersection of personal experience and the socio-political circumstances of the post-war Balkans. Through paintings, objects and light installations, she transforms motifs from personal and collective memory into reflective surfaces that simultaneously convey strong elements of tenderness and resistance. By exploring her own identity in relation to the environment in which she grew up, her works create an immersive environment that dynamically responds to the movement of visitors, creating an intimate yet powerful experience of encountering light and material.
