Literary Meeting with Milan Rakovac On Monday, October 5 at 6 PM, the Rijeka City Library will host a literary meeting with writer Milan Rakovac. The conversation will be led by writer Darija Žilić, with Irena Urbič also taking part. The event is organized by Shura Publikacije from Opatija. About the Author Milan Rakovac, writer, poet and journalist, was born in the village of Rahovci near Poreč on December 12, 1939. He attended primary school and secondary school in Pula and Zagreb and graduated from the Naval Academy in Divulje. After completing his military service, he held political positions in Pula, Rijeka and Zagreb. From 1973 to 1975, he was editor-in-chief of the Pula daily newspaper Glas Istre. He spent most of his professional career, until his retirement, at Television Zagreb (Croatian Television), where he worked as an editor and author of notable documentaries, reports and interviews. At his initiative, the International Border Encounters Forum Tomizza was established in 2000. Held in Umag, Koper and Trieste, the event promotes social and cultural dialogue in the border region and the wider area. He translated several works from Italian into Croatian, including Fulvio Tomizza’s novel Better Life (Pula–Rijeka, 1980), Paolo Parovel’s documentary book The Erased Identity (Pazin, 1993), and Angelo Vivante’s study Adriatic Irredentism (Zagreb, 2002).
