Two distinguished musicians, Ivan Valušek and Darko Jurković Charlie, have joined forces on their new album “Around the D,” an exciting musical project that brings together a unique fusion of different musical worlds — from jazz, blues, and gospel to Indian classical music. The project grew out of the artists’ collaboration on the musical project Mr. Lee & Ivanesky, led by Damir Martinović Mrle of Let 3 and Ivanka Mazurkijević. However, “Around the D” opens up an entirely new space for Valušek and Jurković Charlie to explore music together, with improvisation, spontaneity, and interaction between the musicians serving as key elements of its sonic expression. Another distinctive feature of the album is the way it was created — all compositions were recorded live, preserving the immediacy of the moment and the freedom of making music together. Jazz serves as the project’s fundamental language, while its form continuously opens up to other musical traditions and influences.
