PIRET RAUD: “THE EAR”, directed by Jakub Maksymov The first premiere production is based on the picture book “The Ear” by Estonian author Piret Raud, adapted and directed by Jakub Maksymov, a renowned Czech puppet theatre director whose productions are performed across Europe. This poetic, visually rich and highly rhythmic puppet theatre production explores the art of listening. The story begins when a little Ear, separated from everything it once belonged to, embarks on an unexpected journey. Carried through busy streets, across the sea and through unusual and beautiful landscapes, it encounters creatures, sounds and stories it has never experienced before. Some voices offer friendship and comfort. Others bring doubt, fear and confusion. Along the way, the Ear discovers that listening can be both a gift and a challenge. Through its encounters with others, it gradually learns that every living being carries its own worries, hopes and secrets. By listening to their stories, it begins to better understand both the world around it and itself. Created with very little spoken dialogue, the performance unfolds through puppetry, movement, music and sound. Listening becomes an adventure. Sounds become characters. Silence becomes a space for imagination. The production draws inspiration from the world of painting and the story of Vincent van Gogh, transforming the stage into a landscape of frames, canvases and living paintings.
