Vera Fabris: Pogled kroz zrcalo

At the Rijeka City Library, on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 5:30 PM, the opening of the photography exhibition “A Look Through the Mirror” by photographer Vera Fabris will take place. The exhibition features around thirty photographs created between two important places in the artist’s life: New York and Istria, the Kvarner region and the island of Unije. The photographs bring together both large and small worlds: recognizable scenes of New York, murals, graffiti and monumental bridge structures, as well as intimate scenes of the island, the sea, plants, flowers, animals and sunsets. But Vera Fabris does not photograph only what she sees. Her focus is on the act of looking – on the way we see the world and how, through our perspective, we get to know others as well as ourselves. Reflections, glass, water and blurred surfaces hold a special place in her photographs. They create a kind of mirror through which reality becomes unclear, layered and open to different interpretations. The exhibition thus becomes a journey, not so much toward a specific destination, but through one’s own perspective, experience and thoughts. The exhibition was curated by Nino Sorić, who emphasizes that it is precisely the act of looking, rather than simply what is being looked at, that is the key theme of this photographic collection.
