Japan in Rijeka: Tukico The grand opening of Japan in Rijeka is set for Monday, September 14, 2026, when the exceptional Japanese artist Tukico will take the stage at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMSU Rijeka). Born in Osaka, Japan, Hoshiko Yamane – Tukico began her musical journey within the rigorous discipline of classical music, picking up the violin for the first time at just four years old. Her undeniable talent led her to the prestigious Aichi University of the Arts, where she earned a master’s degree in violin. Seeking to further develop her skills and broaden her horizons, she moved to Germany, where she graduated from the Rostock University of Music and Theatre and later spent time performing with the Brandenburg State Orchestra. Although she was originally destined for a career in classical concert music, Hoshiko discovered a passion for modern sounds, improvisation, and pop music in Europe. A key moment in her career came in 2011, when Edgar Froese, founder and leader of the legendary German band Tangerine Dream, invited her to join the group. As a permanent member of these pioneers of ambient and electronic music, Hoshiko has spent more than a decade performing on international tours and contributing to their studio albums, bringing the unique textures of acoustic and electric violin into the rich universe of analog synthesizers.
