VENEZUELA – Ohad Naharin The Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc presents “Venezuela”, one of the most acclaimed works by Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, an artist known for his innovative movement language and exploration of the relationship between body, motion, and emotion. “Venezuela” explores the possibilities of perception and interpretation through the structure of a repeated choreography performed twice. The same movements, transformed by different performers, music, and lighting, create new experiences and invite audiences to discover different meanings within the same physical expression. In this work, Naharin examines how a single gesture can embody completely different worlds when performed by another body. The choreography is filled with cultural and political references – from Gregorian chants expressing profound sorrow to the explosive energy of hip-hop – creating a landscape where beauty and violence, chaos and elegance constantly collide. “Venezuela” is a powerful exploration of reality and movement, constantly shifting, overflowing, and collapsing under layers of meaning. Through repetition and contradiction, the performance reveals the intensity of stillness, the force of movement, and the beauty of uncertainty. 🎭 Choreographer: Ohad Naharin 💡 Lighting design: Avi Yona (Bambi) Bueno 🎵 Sound & music advisor: Nadav Barnea 👗 Costume design: Eri Nakamura 💃 Performed by: Ballet ensemble of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl.
