TURANDOT – Giacomo Puccini After 32 years, the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc brings back one of the greatest operas in history – “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini. In 2026, the opera world celebrates the 100th anniversary of the premiere of “Turandot” at La Scala in Milan, and Rijeka marks this milestone with a new and spectacular production of Puccini’s final masterpiece. “Turandot” captivates audiences with its combination of musical grandeur, dramatic tension, and the enchanting atmosphere of a Far Eastern fairy tale. The story follows the mysterious Princess Turandot, who challenges her suitors with seemingly impossible riddles, and Prince Calaf, whose courage and love lead him to face every obstacle. The unforgettable aria “Nessun dorma” has made “Turandot” one of the most performed operas in the world. The new production is directed by French director Arnaud Bernard, internationally recognised for his versatile approach and his ability to reinterpret classical works through fresh and unexpected perspectives. His productions are known for strong artistic vision, clear dramaturgy, and a deep understanding of character psychology. Through powerful emotions, mysterious imagery, and Puccini’s extraordinary score, “Turandot” explores themes of love, fear, power, and compassion. This new production invites audiences to experience the opera not only as an exotic fairy tale but also as a profound human drama filled with longing and desire. 🎼 Composer: Giacomo Puccini 🎼…
