Traditional Music of Europe This concert departs from the classic concert format, opening a space for verbal communication between the artist and the audience. The goal is for the traditional stage setup to disappear, allowing a more intimate and open encounter with listeners. Whether through traditional European songs in their authentic form, classical compositions inspired by tradition, or original arrangements of spiritual music, Maja Backović conveys her personal experience through songs and stories from her nomadic life— a life shaped by learning and growth throughout her journey across Europe, from Greece to Portugal. Closely connected to landscapes, their inhabitants, and therefore their cultures and traditions, Maja creates a living concert that is constantly evolving, seen through the lens of her personal search for spirituality and a life experienced to its fullest depth. Through her deep exploration of countries whose traditional instruments and music she passionately studies, Maja interprets what she has learned through her voice, violin, Cretan lyra, and panderó cuadrado—a square drum from the Spanish province of Salamanca. As a travelling artist, she brings the audience into her personal journey while also leaving space for each listener to travel in their own unique way.
