Pussy, it’s time for you to breathe, Pussy Performance by artist Dora Brkarić SKC Gallery, 6:00 PM In her desire to understand what time truly is, the artist steps outside the social constructs imposed by calendars, obligations, and constant productivity. Throughout the process, time was not something to be measured, but rather felt through her own menstrual cycle. Over the course of a year, the artist collected her menstrual blood and followed a cycle that opened up a different sense of duration, knowledge, and orientation. This performance is an attempt to dismantle the concept of time imposed on us through endless demands and pressures that push the body, through speed, toward functionality, availability, and usefulness. At the same time, the work is an ode to the vulva/vagina/pussy/ovaries, the uterus, menstruation, body fat, and the womb. Here, they can finally have a space of their own—a place where they can be illuminated, visible, and free to breathe.
