A Conversation on Fear, Knowledge, Trust, and the Politics of Care Many of us attend our first gynecological examination without a clear understanding of what to expect. We learn about the experience through friends’ stories, online forums, fragmented information, or our own uncomfortable encounters with the healthcare system. Why is this the case? What creates fear around visiting a gynecologist? How do experiences of sexual violence or medical trauma shape our relationship to examinations and caring for our own health? And why is knowledge about our bodies and patients’ rights so often passed on through informal channels? We invite you to join an open conversation in which we will explore how trust is built within healthcare systems, what informed consent means in practice, and what kinds of care policies and practices we create when official institutions fail to provide sufficient safety, clarity, or support. The discussion is inspired by a publication on routine gynecological examinations that we independently conceived, produced, and published as an attempt to make knowledge about gynecological exams, bodily autonomy, and patients’ rights more accessible. The publication will serve as a starting point for a broader discussion on how we collectively create the conditions for information, safety, and care.
