Shelves smelled of vinegar, salt, peppers, and patience. Preserving food was not a hobby or a trend — it was a small household form of security against empty gardens, long rainy seasons, and expensive surprises. In this workshop, we return to that knowledge in a contemporary way. We will talk about fermentation, pickling, food preservation, and the ways people throughout history tried to extend the life of a season. In the practical part, participants will prepare simple fermented and pickled combinations, aromatic spice blends, and small “crisis supplies” that fit on a shelf but carry much more than just food. There will also be discussion about flavours, improvisation, old tricks, and new SCOBY secrets. You are welcome among the home preppers who have rediscovered what our grandmothers already knew. Note: The program includes shared preparation of fermented and pickled foods, and the creation of a small “crisis jar” that participants take home.
