Ivana Šojat is one of the most significant contemporary Croatian writers, the author of novels Unterstadt, Ezan, and the latest Sanjao sam snijeg. Her texts are powerful, emotional, and rooted in experiences of loss, identity, and family relationships. Originally from Osijek, she is a rocker, a “dark” soul, a hug-giver and protector of trees, dogs, the vulnerable, and all living beings, a passionate reader of crime news, and an analyst of psyches, traumas, and clouds. She was born in the shortest and wildest month of 1971. Although she began her literary journey with poetry, she has so far published eight novels (two of them for young readers), five poetry collections, three short story collections, one essay collection, and two children’s picture books. In a desire to understand the world as fully as possible, she has participated in war, ironed other people’s laundry, worked as a court interpreter in Belgium, ridden in tanks and armored personnel carriers, learned to ride horses, climbed mountains, practiced fencing, gardening,…
